Welcome to Shoot’n Fish’n ‘n’ Hunt’n; a new, and independent, e-magazine that will be covering a wide range of topics of interest to fishermen and women, competition shooters, plinkers, reloaders, archers and hunters.
Shoot’n Fish’n ‘n’ Hunt’n will, over time, be addressing a very broad range of topics and hopefully cater to the interests of a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts. Please note, that writing for Shoot’n, Fish’n ‘n’ Hunt’n is not, at this time, a paid position and so articles will appear when time, and various life commitments allow. I would ask that you be patient and understand that, at this time, Shoot’n, Fish’n ‘n’ Hunt’n is a labour of love.
One of the benefits of an independent, online magazine is that there aren’t the serious limitations that exist with printed or ‘sponsored’ magazines. Those limitations are:
- Printed magazines usually have quite severe limitations on the length of each article, and
- Printed, and ‘sponsored’ magazines often show bias towards particular manufacturers.
The reason, that publishers limit the length of printed articles, is quite simply so that they can fit the required number of the articles into approximately the same length magazine each month. This makes perfect sense for the editors and publishers, but little sense for the readers. How many times have you bought a magazine, because you were lured by a particular article on the cover, only to find that the article had almost no real information, very few facts, virtually no usable data and that the article was little more than a regurgitated product brochure? Through Shoot’n, Fish’n ‘n’ Hunt’n we hope to correct that trend.
By remaining independent, of the manufacturers, we will pass comment and judgement on products with honesty and, hopefully, accuracy. Too many authors and reviewers, of the printed magazines, rely heavily on being loaned equipment for their reviews. Accordingly, the reviews that they write, are often far too soft on the product. If they were honest and discussed the faults of the loaned products, they wouldn’t be writing many reviews. So they write reviews and articles that are designed to ensure that they will continue to receive product to review. Design faults and quality control issues are often brushed over, or simply ignored, in many mainstream reviews. Here, at Shoot’n, Fish’n ‘n’ Hunt’n, we will be providing honest and accurate reviews of product that we have purchased. This means that we do not have to pander to the egos of the manufacturers and if a product is not up to scratch, then we will say so.
Further, as Shoot’n, Fish’n ‘n’ Hunt’n, is produced in the electronic medium, we can provide articles of any length as is necessary. If there is a lot of useful and valuable information to pass onto the readers, then the article need not be cut short, as printed media does, and can include all of the relevant information.
Another important advantage of an e-magazine, is that articles are not static, as they are if they are published in traditional magazines. Articles, in an e-magazine, can be updated, improved, corrected and expanded as required. Feedback from readers, further testing/developing or new improvements might make some aspects of an existing article less valid. Accordingly, our articles will continue to be updated, over time, and you might want to revisit, from time to time, to catch up with developments.
Yes, you will see some advertising on this site, in the future, but that advertising will be clearly marked as being ‘advertising’, will be ‘paid for’ advertising (we will need funds so that this magazine will be able to improve and expand our content) and the advertisers will be advertising on the understanding that they will not be given any special treatment in reviews and comments of their products.
We hope that you will enjoy the articles and we invite you all to make comments, both for and against, the content of the articles that you will find here. We, at Shoot’n, Fish’n ‘n’ Hunt’n, are not experts, just enthusiasts who wish to share what we have learnt and what we believe. In addition, we hope that, through your feedback, we will also learn more about the outdoor sports and so, hopefully, we can all benefit from this site.
Happy reading!
